I read this as a stand-alone, because the author included enough back-story from the first two books of the series. This was interesting, because the POVs are of two people with serious anti-social personality disorders. I guessed one is an innate psychopath, and the other is a violently impulsive sociopath with a modicum of empathy.The premise is intriguing, the storyline well-crafted, but I was drawn by the protagonist—an intelligent, high-functioning psychopath—who’s obviously studied/read about the psychology and sociology of human behavior. It wouldn’t have been as gratifying a read if she weren’t still learning about “normal” human behavior. Plus, she does make mistakes when she’s forced to improvise.There were several more-than-coincidences and some unbelievable events, but I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more about Brooke Walton. However, I’m more interested in Greytech and its players.
